World's campest dog gets beer named in his honour

Naming beers after dogs has a long pedigree with dogs and pubs going even further back. So the occasional brew named in honour of the brewer's favourite hound is all to the good. This IPA from Kelham has a nice mocked up painted picture of the eponymous Captain (seemingly smoking a cheroot*)  on the clip and the IPA by all accounts is excellent too.
"We'll have another one please barman and have you got a bowl for wee lad here?"

* it's a dog chew actually - pig's pizzle ed

Star fact file: Captain is only his stage name he was demoted after being rescued and thrown into the showbiz spotlight he used to be a "Colonel"! FACT.

Jesus Christ!

Apparently this campaign was run the state of Meghalaya in India which is 70% Christian. By all accounts it didn't go down too well.

Dog Piss?

Would you name your proudly crafted beer "Dog Piss"?

Would you want to drink a beer called "Dog Piss"?

Guilty as charged: bringing beer into disrepute. Send them down.

Not sure what the brewery is. If anyone knows please comment so I can name and shame.

Brewdog - Sense of Humour Failure.

So the Brewdog boys are competing with a German brewery to produce the world's strongest beer.

Brewdog's latest offering is "Sink the Bismarck".

The reference is of course to the German battleship the plucky underdog Brits sank in 1942.

If you are tempted to have a snigger at the name of the beer think about this: would it be funny if the German brewery produced a beer with the name "Sink HMS Hood"?

HMS Hood was a British battle cruiser sunk in battle against the Bismarck in the Denmark Strait in 1941. Only 3 of 1,418 crew survived.

[Let's not forget 1,995 of 2,200 of the Bismarck's crew also died]

Houston Brewing Company - "Helga's Big Jugs"

"Helga's Big Jugs" by Houston Brewing Company – a "strong, buxom, blonde bier".

Thwaites - "Thoroughbred"

Unfortunately my photograph doesn't do justice to the full gruesomeness of the presentation of this bottled beer, Thoroughbred Gold by Thwaites.

An excess of Essex glamour-puss gold, clear glass, illegible text and tedious guff draws the eye in the same way a puddle of vomit outside your front door does.

With a great deal of squinting I deciphered the script on the front label: some turgid prose along the lines of "a horse is classed as a thouroughbred if its father is blah blah blah, its mother is blah blah blah."

I turned the bottle around. The back label carries exactly the same text with the addition of "Thoroughbred is brewed from the choicest Marris Otter barley and Fuggles and Goldings hops." Blimey, how can you resist?

Sure it doesn't have alliteration, Carry On humour, scantily-clad ladies or Dungeons and Dragons, but, by crikey, it's awful.
